How It Works: Your Journey with ILC

Welcome to ILC, where your path to academic success and personal growth is just a few clicks away! Here’s how it works:

On May 3, 2024, the new Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) replaced the General Education Development® (GED®) high school equivalency assessment.

Available in English and French, this new credential is a high-quality, made-in-Canada education credential that meets industry standards as a replacement for the GED®.

The TVO ILC Learning Model

  • TVO ILC uses a flexible, independent learning model. Courses are based on 110 hours of independent study.
  • Learners manage their own time and complete coursework at their own pace independently.
  • There are no classes or teacher-led sessions.
  • Every course has a mandatory online final test.
  • All coursework and assignments are submitted online, and marked by Ontario Certified Teachers.
  • Learners have a maximum of 10 months from the date of enrollment to complete a course. This includes the completion of all required coursework and the final test prior to the course end date.
  • Most courses can be completed in 6 months.
  • TVO ILC does not offer a summer school program.

TVO ILC may be right for you if:

You have good time management skills and are able to progress through the course on your own with minimal teacher support.

You have strong self-motivation and study habits.

You are able to stay organized.

Since you'll be working alone, it's important that you can make and keep a schedule that will help you complete your study within the 10-month timeline.

You are comfortable working online and navigating through various applications.

Taking Courses

Device Requirements

You will need a laptop or desktop computer to complete your TVO ILC course. Review the device requirements.

Course Delivery

Courses are all online and hosted on the Brightspace learning platform which you can access through the TVO ILC Portal. Here you will access your learning content, submit your assignments, and view your marks.

Course Progress and Assessments

Most courses contain between 6 and 10 assignments. Most assignments are scanned using TurnItIn anti-plagiarism software.

Assignments must be completed and marked in sequential order. Once an assignment has been completed and marked, the next assignment will be unlocked and available for you to submit.  This allows learners to review and apply feedback received.

It will take 3-5 business days to receive your mark on each assignment.

Final Test

Once all unit assignments are completed and marked, learners are ready to write a final test.

Final tests are mandatory for all courses. They need to be scheduled and completed by the course end date.

Final tests are completed online and supervised by a live proctor.
